No deep questions or anything.Ĭoady Willis: Okay good. Noisey: All I've got planned is a quick, silly, lighthearted interview. So we’ve been talking about that in a bunch of interviews, because people are like, ‘Is that what the lyrics are really about?’ I love it.” It degenerated into, ‘Can we just drink a beer while we’re all waiting to die?’ I thought it was obvious that it was just a bunch of crap. And just rambled on about that for about two paragraphs. “I seriously made up this bullshit in five seconds about how it was a struggle for humanity asserting their will about the unpredictability and power of nature. We were really excited about it, and it felt like a new beginning.”Īfter decades of playing in professional bands (to name a few: the two moonlight as the rhythm section of the Melvins Coady used to play drums for Murder City Devils, and Jared started out playing bass for Pacific Northwest weirdo punk bands Karp, The Whip, and Tight Bros From Way Back When), they are no strangers to poking fun at the album-promotion process, either: “It’s funny-the label wanted us to write something about and what it’s about for the press release,” Coady says. “Going back to a two-piece again, it felt like we really pulled together and did something good. That might have had something to do with it.” But that doesn’t mean their signature humor-and even hopefulness-doesn’t seep into the songs. He is sitting across from me at a bar table in Portland, Oregon where they have just finished playing a set at a mini-festival at B-Side, a beloved East Burnside rock ‘n’ roll dive bar, celebrating its 10-year-anniversary. “We kind of had a rough year parting ways with our guitar player,” Coady admits, when asked about the darker elements of the album. While it certainly carries their signature upbeat heaviness, Command Your Weather features a recurring theme throughout, created with eerie percussion (moody, church bell-esque carnival sounds, which, according to the band, are created with an instrument called “blossom bells”) and lyrics that nod to perhaps deeper subject matters than they’ve delved into in the past, the band set out to create a “wiser, more atmospheric” record. These are two men who are beloved in the heavy music world for their impish grins so ubiquitously plastered on their faces, so when there’s even a hint of darkness in their sound, it’s sure to get people to sit up and notice. The new album, Command Your Weather (out July 8 via Joyful Noise Recordings), is perhaps the band’s darkest recording to date. While barbershop promo photos and tongue-in-cheek song titles like “Diagnostic Front” might paint a lighthearted picture, bassist Jared Warren and drummer Coady Willis of Los Angeles two-piece Big Business have returned with a follow-up to their 2013 scorcher, Battlefields Forever, that’ll likely keep everyone on their toes. As for the live material, this is the strongest and best-sounding recording that's emerged to date of the James Williamson-era Stooges on-stage, but since most of the live tapes that have appeared fall somewhere between fair and miserable, that only says so much. Ultimately, Bowie's original mix works better, but the remastered version doesn't do much to correct its flaws. Bowie's mix allows a greater appreciation of what the band is doing and better favors Pop's vocals, but sometimes it sounds too polite, while the Pop mix boasts a tougher guitar sound and more bass but pushes everything so far into the red that listening to the thing is tiring (though curiously, the album's quietest song, "Gimme Danger," is the one that gains the most in Pop's mix). The remastered version of the Bowie mix boosts the bass that was all but absent in the original LP version just a bit, and the fidelity is inarguably superior to the long-gone CD version of Raw Power's original mix, but ultimately it seems that the definitive version of Raw Power lies between these two extremes. Now the whole saga comes full-circle as Columbia releases a two-disc "Legacy Edition" of Raw Power that features Bowie's original mix in remastered form, along with a bonus disc of studio outtakes and an October 1973 Stooges show recorded in Atlanta for possible radio broadcast (then as now, radio wasn't ready for Pop's between-song banter or tunes like "Cock in My Pocket"). Then the world heard Pop's painfully harsh and distorted version of Raw Power, and suddenly Bowie's tamer but more dynamic mix didn't sound so bad, after all. In time it became conventional wisdom that Bowie's mix spoiled a potential masterpiece, so much so that in 1997, when Columbia made plans to issue a new edition of Raw Power, they brought in Pop to remix the original tapes and (at least in theory) give us the "real" version we'd been denied all these years. After Iggy & the Stooges' manic swan song Raw Power was released in 1973, Iggy Pop was known to complain that David Bowie's mix neutered the ferocity of the original recordings. Historical revisionism has been part of rock & roll ever since folks started writing about it with a modicum of serious intent, and part of the fun is it hardly remains static with the passage of time. The tunnel is the largest and most impactful flood mitigation component of the EC Safe and Sound plan, and it is nearing design completion. Today’s ribbon cutting follows a January 30th update from Ball on the Extended North Tunnel. It has the capacity to hold 4.24 million gallons of water, restricting its flow into the Tiber River watershed and away from Historic Ellicott City. The pond, constructed on state land in a clover-leaf interchange at the intersection of Route 29 and Route 40/Baltimore National Pike in Ellicott City, can hold enough runoff to cover a football field to the height of 10 feet. In October, Ball cut the ribbon on the first Safe and Sound project, the H-7 Dry Flood Mitigation Pond. “My office, alongside Senator Guzzone, Senator Hester and the entire Howard County Delegation, have been proud partners in the EC Safe and Sound plan, and I look forward to our continued collaboration with County Executive Ball to safeguard the future of Ellicott City.” “The completion of the Quaker Mill Pond is a reflection of the important progress we have made on flood mitigation efforts in Ellicott City,” said Maryland State House Delegation Chair Courtney Watson. “We are a uniquely resilient City, and we are moving quickly to implement a comprehensive solution that will make our 250-year-old mill town a national climate resilience model for the next 250 years.” “I’m so proud to have worked with our state and local partners to bring more than $42 million back for the Ellicott City Safe & Sound Plan,” said Maryland State Senator Katie Fry Hester. The Ball Administration, with the help of State, local and federal partners, has secured over $167 million in total funding for the Safe and Sound Plan and related flood mitigation projects in Ellicott City, including a $75 million federal WIFIA loan. “Both my predecessor and I share a vision for how elected leaders can responsibly leverage today’s resources to meet tomorrow’s challenges, meeting the diverse preparedness needs of all of Maryland’s communities.” “The Quaker Mill Pond project in Ellicott City exemplifies the type of strategic investments the Board of Public Works can make to increase our state’s resilience to climate change,” said Comptroller Brooke Lierman. “This project is an incredible example of our commitment across all levels of government, to help our most vulnerable communities become more sustainable and resilient to a changing environment.” “It was my honor to celebrate the completion of the Quaker Mill Dry Flood Mitigation Pond,” said Governor Wes Moore. This project improves the prior Quaker Mill Flood Mitigation Pond located at the intersection of Rogers Avenue and Patapsco River Road. The State Board of Public Works (BPW) unanimously approved the MDE grant to support this project. Of the $2.8 million in project costs, $2.1 million in State funding was provided to support this project through the Maryland Department of the Environment’s (MDE) Comprehensive Flood Mitigation Grant Program. We continue to move with urgency, cooperation and resolve, to ensure that Ellicott City’s best days are ahead.” I’m deeply appreciative for all our local, state, and federal partners who continue to help us make significant progress on the safety of Ellicott City. It will reduce peak flow rates from the site for the 100-year storm by approximately 30 percent. “The Quaker Mill Pond is our second major retention project to mitigate flooding. “The completion of this pond marks another giant leap forward in our efforts to implement the transformational EC Safe and Sound flood mitigation plan,” said County Executive Ball. Pictures from the event can be found here, and drone footage of the pond can be found here. The Quaker Mill Pond is the second retention pond to be completed as part of the EC Safe and Sound Plan. The pond will provide nearly 3.3 million gallons of storage, which would fill a football field with nearly 7.5 feet of water. Howard County Executive Calvin Ball was joined by Comptroller Brooke Lierman, and other state and local leaders to cut the ribbon on the Quaker Mill Flood Mitigation Pond, a critical Ellicott City Safe and Sound project. (Against all odds, Bridges, author of Killing Willis: From Diff'rent Strokes to the Mean Streets to the Life I Always Wanted, managed to overcome being a victim of sexual abuse as a kid, drug addiction and going on trial for attempted murder-he was acquitted-and press on in life and his career.) "If I hadn't gotten caught, it could have been the worst thing that happened to me because I could have died of a drug overdose," she said in an interview.įrom 1978 until 1984, when she got pregnant and was written out of the show, Plato starred on Diff'rent Strokes as Kimberly Drummond, the big sister to adopted brothers Willis and Arnold, played by Todd Bridges and Gary Coleman, both of whose post- Strokes lives are also the stuff of child-stardom-gone-wrong legend. Plato had actually credited her arrests in the early 1990s (she got probation for the Rx and robbery offenses) for saving her life. Later that month, the deputy state medical examiner ruled Plato's death a suicide she didn't leave a note, but he factored in her history of drug abuse and depression as well as the amount of medication found in her system. The next day, May 8, 1999, Plato died of a toxic combination of the painkiller Lortab (hydrocodone) and the muscle relaxant Soma-both of which she had been prescribed for back pain, lingering complications from injuries suffered in a car crash-at her fiancé's parents' home in Oklahoma. Stern said she looked fine to him, but while some callers offered words of support, a few accused her of lying about her sobriety, including one who called her an "ex-druggie, ex-con lesbian with mental-health problems." It’s all part of a plan to murder the people who put Isabel in prison and her husband in the grave. Meanwhile, something is brewing in Mexico, and I literally mean “brewing.” A self-proclaimed bruja named Isabel Aretas ( Kate del Castillo) executes a gruesome, “Silence of the Lambs”-style prison breakout, reuniting with her son Armando (Jacob Scipio). In the words of a far better buddy cop picture, Marcus realizes he’s “getting too old for this shit.” Mike tries to change his mind. Unlike his hothead partner, he has a wife and family and wants to spend more time with them rather than the hundreds of criminals he’s been shooting. Now a grandfather-or a “Pop-Pop” as he calls himself-Marcus re-evaluates his law enforcement career. Turns out all the stunts are in service to getting Marcus to the hospital for the birth of his granddaughter. The film opens with that speeding Porsche sequence from the trailer, with Mike and Marcus employing their usual disregard for innocents while engaging in what looks like the pursuit of the latest Miami criminal. When the climax starts laying telenovela-level melodrama atop the explosions and gunplay while openly cannibalizing ideas from “ Gemini Man,” I had to admire the audacity of those choices. I didn’t buy this “kinder, gentler Bad Boys” shtick for one minute, but that doesn’t mean I was bored. This time, Detectives Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) and Mike Lowery (Will Smith) are more mindful of how much collateral damage they do, even if the latter must be constantly reminded to temper his carnage. Unlike the original, this one finds some depth in its female characters unlike the second, it’s not an exceptionally vile mishmash of “Freebie and the Bean” and “ Scarface” whose running time felt approximately 600 hours long. It is the best of the three films, offering in some odd ways a corrective to the prior installments. Surprisingly, “Bad Boys For Life” is nowhere near as bad as its opening day schedule would indicate. <- Audio VideoMixer -Audio Video Mixer application through you adds your favoritemusic in your video.Audio Video Mixer provides a facility for changing BackgroundMusic of any video files.Audio video mixer is one type of video editor app, using thisapp you can add or mix your favorite audio files to video files. This application manage audio file size if the audio file length islarger than video files, it will be automatically trim audio tovideo's duration. How to USE?► Select videos from your gallery► Select audios from your gallery► Mix audio and video► Wait for complete process► Don’t Forget to Click on “Save” Button► Easily Share your Mixer Video With your Friends via all SocialMediaBest Feature:► Make your video with your favorite music► Add your choice of audio to your video► Easily Add your Favorite Music► Audio Video Mixer► Video EditorMake your video with your favorite musicAdd your choice of audio to your videoIf you like the Audio Video Mixer App than Don’t Forget Give 5Star Rate & Review Also.Īudio Rocket is a simple and easy to use freeapplication that turns any one of your favourite videos into audiothat is streamed directly on your device. Please give us your thoughts on the new updates but please go easyon the low ratings :)PLAY AND SHARE VIDEO✓Play nice quality videos optimised with your internetconnection.✓Searching videos and playlists and sorting them by views, ratingor publish date✓Share videos with your friends✓Play fullscreen videosHISTORY PLAYBACK FUNCTIONAudioRocket comes with a history function that keeps a record ofthe videos you have listened to and allowing them to be played backwithout the hassle of searching for it again.SAVE DATA, SAVE BATTERY, SAVE MONEYWith Audio Rocket there is no need to watch the video (20+ mb) whenyou can just listen to it (4-5mb) without rendering the videosaving your data, money and battery.FREEWe have released it completely free. Only two characters can be active at once, in any combination. This also brings us to the new maximum number of lives that can be collected by the player. Two new characters bring us to a grand total of five when added to Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Ray might take more time to master compared to Mighty, but the investment will pay off in the ability to reach more places more quickly than other characters. Whereas Knuckles can glide to and then climb walls to reach higher ground, in the right hands, Ray could simply glide high enough to avoid having to climb altogether. Pressing forward will cause Ray to lean forward, gliding much more quickly but consequently losing more altitude in the process. By holding back on the directional pad while gliding, Ray will pull back and begin to glide up, more slowly than his usual glide. It is similar to Knuckles’ glide, but noticeably different in execution. Ray looks like a cousin of Tails at first glance. It’s a new tactic that can come in handy in boss battles, and Mighty may become some players’ favorite character just due to this option. This means that jumping onto spikes does not cause the player to lose rings or die. Furthermore, and arguably more useful, if Mighty is attacking (that is, in ball form), he is impervious to damage, even from (non-squishing) obstacles. Mighty’s ability is a downward slam, like Sonic’s Mania ability, except holding the jump button in mid-air only causes Mighty to move downward, and does not result in a spin dash being automatically performed. But Mighty’s color shade is different, and his hair is more in style with Sonic’s. Mighty could easily be confused with Knuckles the Echidna, since both are red. Two old characters have been resurrected for Sonic Mania Plus: Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Flying Squirrel. Still, this campaign will run the average gamer 3-5 hours on their first run, and much less time for those speed freaks out there, so there is a lot of game to run through. Pacing isn’t as stellar as in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, where multiple acts per zone were followed by three lengthier single-act zones, all leading up to an epic, multi-stage final battle aboard the Death Egg – in Sonic Mania Plus, things just kind of end after a drawn-out final fight, much like Sonic the Hedgehog 3. The entire campaign technically takes place in one long camera shot, then. Each zone has a transition cinematic of some sort, where the player and partner are controlled by the computer and make some sort of jump, leap, or run to the next area. When visiting classic zones such as Hydro City, while classic sections remain intact, they are interspersed with new areas to uncover secrets from – nothing is ever truly left alone, perhaps with the thinking that if you wanted to play the old stages exactly as they existed before, you could simply play an older Sonic game. The zone names may be the same, such as the classic Angel Island and Green Hill Zones, and culminate with a final boss battle in Titanic Monarch Zone, but the individual acts have been remade in a new Encore mode, with special areas for this entry’s new characters. There are 13 zones to explore again, with two acts for all but the first – 25 acts total. Where to begin? Well, for starters, let’s go with the lengthy campaign. |
